Cleaning up 2 stroke fuel that may have water

I probably catch 10 gallons of fuel from handhelds that may have water. I put it in 5 gallon containers and use it to wash stuff. Why not pour it in a fuel filter seperator then back into the handheld?

Or will the oil be filtered out? Get a diesel fuel filter? Or am I off base
