Is it possible for my blades to hit eachother? Craftsman T1000 203700

I have a Craftsman T1000 (203700) 42" riding mower. I've changed the blades on it a couple times (due to my hitting roots, etc). None of the Craftsman videos out there ever mention installing the blades at 90º angles to eachother. The manual for my specific model doesn't mention anything special, either. The blades have never hit eachother, but after the last blade change, I noticed that there's a squeaking happening when I am in the middle of engaging the blades.
