Need some constructive input on doing a total rebuild on my mower

Hey everyone, so I have a 98 Walker mower with a 25hp Kohler, looking at doing a repower, new ghs components, paint, and rebuild on decks. Mower is 3k+ hours but it has some nostalgic value to me.

What is everyone's experience in these situations?
