Need help with SmithCo Sweepstar V62 big time

Hey, fellas. I'm having major problems with my SmithCo Sweepstar V62 vacuum. Last fall I went to get it going. I hooked up the negative terminal to it and sparks start flying. I released the factory installed sparks for about two or three seconds and then they stopped. I soon realized the battery had been held down with baling wire and the positive terminal grounded out... I spent a little bit of time on it but got nowhere. There were other jobs to do so it sat until now.
I got the engine...
